Midsoles are developed using EVA technology, a polymer with excellent stress and impact resistant properties, often containing a lightweight, flexible nylon protective layer to reduce the possibility of a puncture wound when stepping over sharp surfaces and objects. Furthermore, trail running generally takes place over softer surfaces such as dirt, grass and mud, making cushioning less critical in the overall construction of the shoe.
