How to choose a longboard?

There are plenty of attractive color options to choose from, but for the most comfortable ride, consider factors like the length of the board, the wheels, and more. Waveboards are also a great option to explore.

Deck Shape – The pintail shape is classic and ideal for city commuting, making it a great choice for beginners. The cruiser shape is similar to a skateboard and can be used for tricks. Hybrid longboards offer better stability thanks to a cutout deck and top-mounted wheels, making them suitable for downhill, freeride, carving, and tricks. If you're into fast downhill rides, opt for Drop-Thru or Double Drop models.

Wheel Size and Shape – Larger wheels allow for faster rides, while smaller wheels provide better acceleration and higher stability since they keep you closer to the ground. Square-edged wheels grip the surface well in turns, while round-edged wheels are perfect for sliding, allowing for smooth drift.

Wheel Hardness – Soft wheels offer great grip, absorb shocks well, and are quiet, but they aren’t ideal for high-speed rides. Hard wheels allow for faster speeds but are less comfortable and grip the surface less effectively.

Wheel Placement – Center-set wheels allow for sliding without losing speed, side-set wheels are easy to control and grip well, and off-set wheels are the most common and versatile.

Deck Length – A longer deck gives you more stability and allows you to ride faster. Shorter decks are easier to maneuver and better for tricks.

Trucks – Reverse kingpin trucks provide great turning ability and stability, which are necessary for downhill, freeride, or carving. Vertical kingpin trucks

are great for city commuting, tricks, and mild downhill rides.

Bushings – Bushings influence how the board handles. Softer bushings make it easier to turn but reduce stability. Harder bushings provide stability but require more effort to turn.

Bearings – Bearings are categorized by their manufacturing precision under the ABEC rating system, with ABEC5 or higher recommended. Chrome steel, titanium, or ceramic bearings are ideal.

Deck Material – High-quality decks are made of Canadian maple or bamboo. Cheaper options like laminate or carbon fiber may not offer the same properties as wood.

Grip – A coarser grip provides better foot traction, while a less coarse grip is suitable for city riding and tricks. A rough grip is necessary for downhill and sliding.
