Basketballs can be of different colours, sizes and materials. Men usually reach for size 7, women prefer size 6 basketballs and for children and juniors, size 5 is chosen. How to choose a basketball?

When choosing the right basketball, it is important to consider the use, size, material and design. 

Usage - Indoor basketballs are labeled indoor. They are softer on the surface and would wear out quickly on asphalt or concrete. The best models are made of genuine leather. More durable materials - rubber or polyurethane (synthetic leather) - are used to make outdoor balls. A special coating adds to the durability.

Size - Professional men's competitions are played with a size 7 ball. You will see the same size in boys' competitions from 14 years old. In women's and girls' competitions from the age of 14 you will come across size 6. Size 5 is used in youth categories up to the age of 13. Other sizes of basketballs are made for recreational purposes, such as 1 or 3.

Material - The cheapest basketballs are made of rubber. However, in terms of grip and durability, this is not the best solution. Better properties are provided by synthetic leather, which is the most widely used material. Genuine leather is used for the production of professional balls. However, you have to pay extra for leather basketballs.
