How to Choose a Punching Bag?
Punching bags are used to practice your punches. They come in various forms. The most common are hanging bags, boxing trainers, or so-called punching mitts.
Hanging Punching Bags – The most popular variant. The bag is suspended from a frame or ceiling. Typically, the bag is pre-filled to a specific weight, but models are also available that you can gradually fill to increase the weight as your skills improve.
Boxing Trainers – These don't hang; they stand on a stable base. Ideal for smaller spaces or if you don't want to drill holes in the ceiling. They’re portable and can come in a cylindrical shape or as a figure for practicing precise
punches.
Boxing Pears – Small, hanging bags shaped like a pear, perfect for conditioning, reflex training, and speed punches. Boxing balls are a comparable alternative.
How to Choose the Size of a Punching Bag?
When selecting a punching bag, you need to choose the appropriate height and weight. For boxing training, bags between 80 and 120 cm are recommended. If you plan on practicing kicks, opt for longer bags – preferably 150 cm or more.
The weight of the punching bag should be about half your body weight. A person weighing 80 kg should look for a bag weighing around 40 kg. Experienced boxers may choose a bag that weighs up to 80% of their body weight.
